De'Anthony Thomas flips to Oregon

Lane Kiffin has had a heck of a Signing Day. But the recruit he and the Trojans hoped was their cherry on top was a bomb.

Los Angeles native De'Anthony Thomas, a consensus five-star athlete and the No. 15 player in the country according to Maxpreps , has turned his back on his hometown Trojans to sign instead with the Pac-12's current power program: the Oregon Ducks.

A 5'9", 175-pound dynamo who should thrive under Chip Kelly's lightning tempo and one-on-one open-field mismatches (not to mention the Ducks' nation-leading punt returns), Thomas had been a longtime USC commitment but took a surprising (and secretive) visit to Eugene just last weekend, throwing his recruitment into doubt. Rumors swirled throughout the day until "the Black Mamba" announced at approximately 10 p.m. EST -- the final recruit to announce on Signing Day -- that he would be a Duck.

Though both USC and Oregon will boast highly impressive classes, Thomas's decision looms as a potentially seismic moment in the new Pac-12 hierarchy. Though the Ducks have had the clear, dominant upper hand on the field the past two seasons, until now they haven't had the same kind of recruiting muscle as the Los Angeles glamour program. To not only steal away Kiffin's highest-ranked recruit but a highest-ranked recruit from Los Angeles suggests that the gap on the recruiting trail has been narrowed--maybe to such a point that it doesn't exist at all.

So yes, Thomas's decision was a big one. And for Duck fans, it was one that was certainly worth the wait.

Win something first before announcing that you are "here", Duckie.

Most of the responses from "condom" fans sounds more like they should be called USG(University of Sour Grapes)
Chip is a far superior Coach, Recruiter, and Man than Kiffin could ever hope to be.  Deal with it boys, the Ducks are not "on the rise",
they are there!

This is NOT going to change the balance of power in Oregon's favor.
The balance of POWER is already in Oregon's favor.

If you are sticking up for Kiffin then maybe you should rethink your life.

This makes asolutely zero sense. This is obviously the short bus thread, goodbye kids.

Does the defection hurt some? Absolutely, but not as much as some might expect. If he were a WR, LB, or lineman this would hurt far worse since SC reloads at RB year in and year out.

Dream on, Miami.  USC is on its way back to the top.  And USC dirty?  Wasn't actually and definitely isn't now - no team is more by the book than they are now...their compliance staff is huge!

As far as the loss of DT goes?  No big deal.  Would have been a nice add-on but he does fit better into Oregon's O.  This is NOT going to change the balance of power in Oregon's favor.  USC filled their needs VERY nicely yesterday.

So if a non-athlete accepts admittance to a University and changes his mind and decides he will go to a different school, he too should be suspended from attending college for one year? Of course not, it happens thousands of times each year. So why treat athletes differently?
Your proposal is just plain idiotic.

Good for the Ducks!!! Not sure how much time he would have gotten at the University of Spoiled Children but that doesn't matter now. He is going to be a great fit in Chip Kelly's system. As for his future in the NFL. Who knows, their have been plenty of small backs that have gone onto solid careers. Like a Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas and more recently Maurice Jones Drew. Plus he'll put on 20 - 30 pounds in the time he's at Oregon. I'll be keeping an eye on this kid for sure. Best of luck De'Anthony.
