It seems that Notre Dame's victories over USC these days aren't limited to the football field. What's already been a strong day for Notre Dame on the recruiting front just got a bit better on Wednesday morning, as Troy Niklas chose the Irish over USC.

According to Tom Lemming, the 6'6 255-pound offensive tackle out of Anaheim, CA's Servite High School is one of the top offensive tackles in the 2011 class.

Niklas is just the latest name to join a recruiting class at Notre Dame that has really put an emphasis on both the offensive and defensive lines.

Thank you for showing vigilance to confirm my responses. It is baffling at times how easy it is for people to take the low road when they do not have all the data.

Men of Troy Get real I live in So.Cal have many friends who went to USC and they will tell you how corrupt SC is. One of my best friends played football there he loved he never had to go to class he did roids all 4 yrs he partied his but off and he admits it and typical of SC players he didn't Graduate. USC got exactly what they deserved with the sanctions and you got to know that your appeal its DEAD on arrival. And then just to show how smart SC is and this is a good one they go and hire a coach who's already under investigation at another school. But I guess in there defense they didn't have much of a choice considering the first 4 or 5 guys they offered the job to some former SC guys didn't want the job. And now it gets even better because it looks like the NCAA is going to possibly drop the hammer on your coach for his actions at Tn. Ya this is program that I would love to send my son to as I throw-up in a bucket. Troy Niklas without a doubt made the right choice Its a !st class school, education and coach theres no comparsion but Good luck to you when the other sanctions take affect and your boys are sitting at home watching the bowls.

Mellafells, I did that research you talk about:  US News & World Report ranks ND as the 19th best college in the nation.  USC is 23 and UCLA is 25.  ND's undergraduate MBA program is ranked #1 in the nation.  There is also a service called payscale that rates the "value" of a college's degree.  ND's degree is ranked as the 9th best value (in terms of the money made over a career).  Neither UCLA or USC made the top 25.

Your reference to overall athletics is also misplaced. ND has more football national championships that USC or UCLA.  ND has far more wins that USC and UCLA and a better winning percentage.  ND's men's basketball, women's basketball, fencing, lacrosse, soccer, and baseball teams are also consistently highly ranked and almost always ranked higher than USC and UCLA.  ND women's soccer team won the national championship in 2010.  ND's men's basketball team is currently ranked #9 in the nation.  Neither USC or UCLA are ranked.  ND's women's basketball team is also currently ranked #9 in the nation.  UCLA is #8 (not a big disparity there) and USC is #23.

None of this is to say anything bad about UCLA or USC.  They are both fine academic and athletic insitutions.  However, if you are going to tell someone to do the research you better do it yourself first: especially before you resort to childish attacks.

Mellafella, never made any reference to academia of either institution just graduation rates of athletes. Yet you chose to go down that easy and classless route of calling anybody affiliated with ND as pedophiles NIIIIICE!(apparently your not catholic). Coming from an apparent USC fan that type of myopic attitude is not surprising.

Seriously Illini Alum...please do some research before trying to make a point--any point.

The University of Southern California AND UCLA are both rated higher academically on any & all legitimate rankings than that p.o.s. catholic institution replete with pedophilic professors/priests.

Notre Dame never has been/isnt currently/never will be a better academic institution than either L.A. school I referred to...and as for overall athletics (male & female), ND is putrid in comparison.

Hopefully this is an indication of things to come for ND. Any time they get a leg up on that corruption laden program known as USC its a good thing.Notre Dame athletes are expected to graduate and they do upwards of 95%, at USC under Mike Garrett and Pat Carroll that wasn't the case perhaps with Pat Haden and Lance Kiffin at the helm that will change but I doubt it.

It is good to see ND making it a priority to recruit quality on the offensive line and the front 7 on defense. This will get them back to playing ND football. Having the skilled guys is great but if you do not have the big guys up front and the speed on defense you will go no where. All the top teams in the country have speed on defense and power in the OL.

Wait your NO 1 quarterback was out? Really? Tommy Rees was a freshman who had only played in a few games before the USC game. Your team choked. Man up and quit making excuses. Doesnt really matter who USC beats anyway it is irrelevant. Wont get them anywhere...because they cant go anywhere. Haha...next time make sure your coaches are not on camera taking bribes or your star player has enough sense to hide his new ride and transfer his new found funds to a Swiss bank. You guys cant even cheat right...long time in coming. Oregon will be the new team to beat in the Pac 10....

Come on USC fan...there is a reason why USC are the Trojans...haha. Lift the sanctions? In your dreams. They got exactly what they deserved and then some. Good for them they have a great class that will be sitting at home watching other teams play in bowl games. When exactly does the reduction in scholarships take place? Since he decided to go to Notre Dame he isnt worth having? What a GOOD sport you are. Speaks volumes about USC fans.
